JBU to Erect $8M Construction Management Building
Officials at John Brown University in Siloam Springs unveiled plans for an $8 million construction project in early August. JBU is seeking to fund a $3 million endowment for future maintenance and other costs related to the building.
The two-story building will be 40,000 SF and will be the new engineering and construction management facility.
Nabholz Construction Corp. of Rogers is the general contractor.
Hastings and Chivetta Architects Inc. of St. Louis is the architect on the building.
Bidding will be done in two phases. Phase I will include all the dirt work, civil engineering and site prep, and will wrap up in September. Phase II will include more finish work and other structural components, and should wrap up in October.
Funding for the building came from an anonymous donor with a lead gift of $8 million.
The building is slated for an August 2011 completion.
CTC Ventures
Takes Five Units
Former University of Arkansas professor Neil Schmitt of Fayetteville, through his CTC Ventures Inc., recently purchased six parcels in Fayetteville for $1.82 million. Five of the parcels include two-story 4,832-SF multi-family units.
The buildings are located at 596 and 597 E. Miracle Dr., 665 and 687 S. Grace Ave., and 688 S. Solis Ave.
The sixth parcel is attached to 596 E. Miracle Dr. and includes a combined 14,996-SF of paved surface.
The units and land were purchased from Crazy 8 LLC, headed by Robert Schmitt, and were recently appraised at a combined $2.05 million.
The mortgage was obtained through Liberty Bank of Arkansas.

UAMS Finish
The Tontitown office of SSI Constructors recently started the build-out of 9,000 SF in the old Washington Regional Hospital on College Avenue in Fayetteville.
The space will become the new UAMS Pharmacy and will include classrooms and workspace.
Mars Electric Inc. of Springdale is the electrical contractor. Comfort Systems of Lowell will perform the HVAC and plumbing work. Abbey Carpet of Bentonville will provide the flooring.
WER Architects of Little Rock and AFHJ Architects of Fayetteville designed the project.
TME Inc. of Fayetteville is the engineering firm.
