The American Heart Association has been running the Go Red for Women campaign as part of American Heart Month since 2004, and this year is no different.

The local AHA organization will hold its annual luncheon on Feb. 16 at the John Q. Hammons Center in Rogers. Activities are scheduled from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

The aim of American Heart Month is to spark lifestyle changes that decrease the risk for heart disease, which is the leading cause of death in the United States. Among women, cardiovascular disease kills about 460,000 a year.

In other local AHA-related news, the annual Paint the Town Red event netted more than $100,000. Spokeswoman Christina Hinds said that amount is “about even” with the 2009 event.
