Springdale will be one of more than 140 cities hosting an April 15 Tax Day Tea Party.

Inspired by a rant by CNBC reporter Rick Santelli, Americans who’ve had enough have been organizing feverishly via the Web and Facebook groups to make their voices heard. A recent “tea party” in Cincinnati drew around 4,000 people.

Organizers of the Springdale event said at least 100 people have already committed to attend at the central mail facility downtown on Holcomb Street that will be open late for last-minute tax filers.

“This will be a peaceful protest of the wasteful spending happening in Washington D.C. and around the country,” said coordinator Eric Baity. “Families are encouraged to attend and express their views on these issues.”

The Springdale event, scheduled for noon-2 p.m., has its own group on Facebook. The only other Arkansas event planned so far is in Mountain Home.
