Wally’s Hall of Shame, Revisited (Opinion)

We were scratching our heads at the lead sports columnist in the state’s largest paper in the wake of Jeff Long’s hiring as athletic director at the University of Arkansas.

On Sept. 6, Wally Hall incorrectly reported Tulane athletic director Rick Dickson was at the top of the list for consideration for the job.

Turns out he was never even interviewed for the post, and Long was scheduled to fly in that weekend with his family to see the campus before officially accepting the job on Sept. 11.

But that didn’t stop Hall from taking credit for Long’s hiring, writing on Sept. 13 that, “the bold, brave and wrong prediction did seem to jolt the UA power players into action.”
