The first auction at the Dixie Cattle Stock Exchange in Madison County was a success with about 200 in attendance for the April 27 event.
The sale consisted of 68 lots of mostly heifers. Each was comprised of a cow, cow/calf, embryos or pregnancies. The seller corralled about $400 more per lot than anticipated and gross sales totaled $263,000.
Owner Ben Israel, founder and CEO of Dixie Management in Fayetteville, said the highest lot went for $38,750, which was for four pregnancies (embryonic transfers) from a recently purchased cow with a great pedigree that is co-owned with Oakdale Farms of Booneville.
Bidding was done live at the barn and via the Internet. The next auction is scheduled for Dec. 8.
