Files, Medley make official their state Senate bids

Jake Files and Jim Medley, both former members of the Arkansas House of Representatives, filed as Republican candidates in the Arkansas Senate District 13 race.

The district, which represents Fort Smith, is now held by Sen. Denny Altes, R-Fort Smith, who is term limited.

Files, 37, announced Sept. 29 he would seek the Senate seat. Files served in the Arkansas House of Representatives from 1999-2003. Files is a partner in a construction company and real estate development firm he started. He has served on several boards and commissions, and he is a member of the Greater Fort Smith Homebuilders Association, and is a Realtor.

Medley, who served in the Arkansas House for three terms, announced Aug. 13 he would enter the race. Medley is the CEO of Fort Smith-based Area Agency on Aging. Medley also is a former member of the Fort Smith Board of Education, and former member of the Board of Directors of the Fort Smith Chamber of Commerce.

Also filing Wednesday was Rep. Tracy Pennartz, D-Fort Smith, who is seeking reelection to her third term in the House District 65 seat.

The filing period began Monday (Mar. 1) for federal, state and legislative seats. Following are the names of those who filed in the races monitored by The City Wire. The filing period ends at Noon, Mar. 8. The City Wire will post candidate filings at the end of each day.
