Louisville, Ky.-based Metal Sales Manufacturing Corp. is planning to invest $4.1 million and create up to 15 jobs at the former Indiana Tube operation at 7510 Ball Road in Fort Smith.

Information about the new jobs was included in the packet sent to Fort Smith board members for their March 2 meeting. The city is required to approve a resolution that approves state incentives to be used to bring the company’s operation to Fort Smith.

According to a memo from Deputy City Administrator Ray Gosack, the state’s Tax Back program allows a new or expanding industry to request refunds of sales taxes paid on manufacturing and building materials used on a new facility or to renovate existing structures. The refunds are made only on the initial purchases related to new construction or renovation.

The board is expected to act on the resolution at the March 2 regular meeting.

Metal Sales Manufacturing has 20 locations in the U.S., including a small manufacturing site in Anchorage, Alaska. The company, in business more than 45 years, makes a wide range of metal roof, wall, fascia and soffit panels for commercial, residential, industrial and agricultural uses.

Indiana Tube, a supplier to Whirlpool’s Fort Smith plant, built the 34,000-square-foot manufacturing facility in Fort Smith in 2000, and then pulled 31 jobs and operations out of the building in late 2005 when it moved to be closer to Whirlpool plants in Mexico.
