Forty Under 40: Robyn Goforth, 35

It seems entrepreneurial scientist Robyn Goforth, a partner in the development of a new solution for osteoporosis, has struck gold with her unflagging zeal for scientific discovery.
After earning her doctorate in biochemistry from the University of Arkansas in 2001, she held several jobs including technology assessment consultant for Beta-Rubicon LLC. Today, Goforth juggles four titles: chief operating officer at BiologicsMD, UA research professor in biological sciences, technology specialist for Virtual Incubation Corp. and senior scientist at Minotaur Technologies.
Goforth’s partners at BiologicsMD were found in UA professor Carol Reeves’ entrepreneurship course, when the four graduates found a promising lead for osteoporosis treatment in October 2009. With Reeves’ help to approach investors, they formed the company in January 2010.
This spring, the company secured more than $515,000 in business competition victories at Rice University and the University of Texas at Austin. A toast to future commercial success, partners rang the closing bell at Nasdaq in June.
“This has been the best combination of success from a business standpoint and true personal enjoyment,” Goforth said.
BiologicsMD is now completing trials for FDA approval of the drug, which would join a $9 billion global market.
