Circuit Clerk Cindy Gilmer, a Democrat, has announced she will seek re-election.

Gilmer is a resident of Fort Smith, and began service in the Clerk’s office in 1985. In 2003 Clerk Nancy Brewer appointed her chief deputy, where she served until taking office in 2009.

As Circuit Clerk, Gilmer administers and maintains offices in the Fort Smith and Greenwood Courthouses, and the satellite records and Child Support Registry Office at Parker Annex in Fort Smith.

Gilmer is a 1984 graduate of Ouachita Baptist University with a bachelor’s degree in business administration. She has attended continuing education courses through the Arkansas Circuit Clerk’s Association and the National Center for State Courts in Boulder, Colo.

As chief deputy she was heavily involved with former Clerk Nancy Brewer in getting the Clerk’s office on line for Internet access to court records, and since taking office as Clerk in 2009 she has implemented the scanning project started with Brewer began, according to a statement from Gilmer. The scanning project ensures that all all case documents are scanned daily.

Gilmer noted in her reelection statement that one of her goals is to implement the additional scanning of the courts’ closed permanent case records for preservation and easy access for the public during her next term in office.

Gilmer is a member of the Arkansas Circuit Clerks Association, the International Association of Clerks, Recorders, Election Officials and Treasurers (IACREOT), the Sebastian County Democratic Women, the Sebastian County Democratic Central Committee, the Fort Smith Rotary Club, and is a new board member of Girls Inc.
