Mercy Health System of Northwest Arkansas recently announced a $5 million donation from J.B. and Johnelle Hunt to its Northwest Arkansas capital campaign.

The campaign will help fund the $140 million construction of a new medical campus in Rogers that includes a 350,000-SF, 200-bed medical center and a 150,000-SF medical office building that will house up to 90 physicians.

Clark Ellison, executive director of development for Mercy of Northwest Arkansas said the donation brings the funds raised to $17 million of the $40 million campaign goal.

In April, Wal-Mart Stores Inc. donated $5 million to the capital campaign. Wal-Mart’s funds will specifically go toward the $30 million earmarked for the information technology segment of the $140 million project. Ellison said Mercy hopes to go paperless in its new facilities.

The new campus is slated to open in July 2007. In addition to the capital campaign, the project will be funded through operational gains, investments and reinvestments totaling $100 million.
