Fatal crashes involving Northwest Arkansas trucking carriers have increased by at least 14 percent from a total of 59 reported in 2001-2002 to a total of 67 reported in 2002-2003, despite the decrease of 2,216 tractors among the ten companies.

J.B. Hunt Transport Services Inc. saw a decrease in its annual fatalities, while Wal-Mart Transportation LLC, ABF Freight Systems Inc. and Tyson Foods Inc. all increased during the same time.

The greatest percentage increase came from Tyson Foods and Wal-Mart Transportation, which both saw their crash-related fatalities rise by two.

The best performers were George’s Inc. and Peterson Farms Inc. which both had zero fatalities. George’s was statistically the best performer, because it operates more than four times as many tractors as Peterson Farms (see chart).

Not all of the historical data on the companies was available.
