We’ve been enjoying the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette’s “Baghdad blog,” a diary of sorts written by reporter Amy Schlesing. She and D-G photographer Staton Breidenthal, have been traveling in Iraq since mid-March with the Arkansas National Guard’s 39th Infantry Brigade. The blog is viewable on the D-G’s Web site and provides insight to the daily routine for American journalists in Iraq.

Here’s part of Schlesing’s blog on April 8: “I’m at Camp Scania, Iraq, with the convoy of 3rd Battalion and reports say tonight’s going to be scary. A lieutenant pointed to the woodline a few minutes ago, more than a football field away, and told me that if mortar rounds start flying, either find a 5-ton truck to roll under or run like hell for the bunkers in the woodline. My cot is next to a 5-ton, my body armor will be my pillow tonight.”

Schlesing previously worked for The Morning News and the D-G’s Springdale office before moving to newspaper’s Little Rock office.
