Smokin-RX Hits Shelves
Roger Brewer of Fayetteville has taken his family’s barbecue sauce recipe to the public.
In late summer, he started marketing the sauce, which was invented 40 years ago by his mother, Carolyn Brewer. Now, the sauce and four other products from the company are in 400 grocery stores, including Harps Food Stores in Northwest Arkansas.
In addition to the regular barbecue sauce, Smokin-RX also has a spicy barbecue sauce, a marinade and two rubs — one for brisket and one for ribs.
A chicken rub has been developed as well, but it won’t be on store shelves anytime soon, Brewer said. Tyson Foods Inc. is considering the chicken rub to possibly be incorporated into its product line. And Wal-Mart Stores Inc. is pondering carrying the other products.
Brewer said the family’s barbecue sauce has won several awards, and his brother Rick Brewer of Athens, Ga., urged him to take it to the people.
Brewer said KC Masterpiece has even tried to buy the recipe.
