For the first time in more than two years, the Northwest Arkansas Business Journal’s editorial staff has changed.

Elisabeth Butler, an assistant and associate editor of the Business Journal since 2000, left June 21 to pursue another journalism opportunity in a major market.

Talia E. Myres, a 2002 graduate of the University of Arkansas and former Business Journal intern, joined the publication on June 17 as an assistant editor. Jeffrey Wood, the Business Journal’s editor, said the entire Arkansas Business Publishing Group family will miss Butler.

“Elisabeth has been such an asset, we hate to lose her,” Wood said. “At the same time, she has some wonderful opportunities now because of her hard work and great attitude. It is our company culture to help employees grow both professionally and as people, and we are nothing but excited for Elisabeth.”

As sad as the staff is to see Butler go, Wood said, The Business Journal is enthused about Myres’ arrival. Myres received her bachelor’s degree in journalism this spring after spending her final semester studying at the UA School of Architecture’s Rome Study Center in Italy.

“Talia demonstrated her abilities and tenacity when she served as an intern for us,” Wood said. “There was a lot of tough competition for the position, but Talia has already proven to be an asset.”

Butler interned with the Business Journal in 1999 as a senior at the UA. She graduated in the spring of 2000 and joined the staff full time as an assistant editor. A native of El Dorado, Butler was promoted to associate editor in 2001.

Myres, a Tulsa native, will cover industries related to hospitals and health care, insurance, trucking and transportation, new and small businesses, tourism, the arts and entertainment.

Myres is a former section editor, designer and senior staff writer for the Arkansas Traveler, the UA’s student newspaper.
