Collier Drug Stores of Fayetteville merged in May with Valley Drug in Prairie Grove to form Collier-Valley Drug in that town.

That brings the number of Collier’s stores to six in four cities — Fayetteville (three), Springdale, Pea Ridge and Prairie Grove.

Valley Drug, at 115 E. Buchanan in Prairie Grove, had been solely owned by Peggy Woolsey since 1982. She has remained there as a pharmacist.

Collier’s recently opened a 4,700-SF store in Fayetteville’s North Hills Medical Park. At the same time, the company closed its store across the street from the new location.

Collier’s is owned by Carl Collier of Fayetteville. The company was founded in 1917 when Mel Collier opened the Red Cross Drug Store on the north side of the downtown Fayetteville square. The company opened the first Collier’s Drug Store on Dickson Street in 1950, where it remains today. The Red Cross Drug Store was closed after a fire in 1955.
