Italian Design
Eisenman says he designed the roof of the UA stadium like that of a soccer stadium in Bari, Italy, so that air can move through it and keep the crowd about 10 degrees cooler than they would otherwise be. The new design, however, won’t make it more windy for players on the field. Fayetteville’s prevailing southwest to northwest winds were taken into consideration for the stadium design. Also, the stadium provides shade on the east stands so spectators there will be more comfortable during afternoon games.
A walkway over Stadium Drive will link the stadium to the campus.
Eisenman says HNTB, one of the leading stadium architectural firms in the country, is helping with the project, adding technical expertise.
Eisenman won’t say how much he’s getting paid for the design but notes that it’s no more than any other stadium architect in the country would charge. The entire project is expected to cost between $50 million and $60 million.
Eisenman has also designed a stadium for the Phoenix Cardinals professional football team, but the UA stadium design is completely different from that one.
