Newspaper Reporter Changes

We don’t usually write about reporters changing jobs in this column (since there are so many reporters in Northwest Arkansas), but because three veteran reporters have moved within the last couple of weeks, we thought we’d make an exception.

Jeff Wood, a sports writer for the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette, has left that newspaper for a job with our sister publication, Arkansas Business. (See publisher’s column on page 4.)

Mark Minton, a business writer for the Morning News of Northwest Arkansas, is moving to Kingsport, Tenn., where his wife, Anne, has taken a job as a seventh-grade English teacher. Minton says he’s going to take some time to freelance and “do journalism outside the bounds of daily newspaper requirements.” His last day at the Morning News was Aug. 21.

Lois Flowers, one of the original staffers for Northwest Arkansas Business Matters, the weekly business section of the D-G, is leaving her job there “within the next few weeks” to spend more time with her family.

“It was just the right time,” says Flowers. “It was a completely personal decision. It had nothing to do with the paper or my job.”
