Springdale Habitat for Humanity had a ground-breaking ceremony recently for “The House That Bernice Built,” a house for a single mother with two children in Springdale.

rThe house, which will be located at 626 North Mill St., is a community-driven project designed to honor Bernice Jones for her philanthropy work in Springdale.

rJones is the wife of the late Harvey Jones of Jones Truck Lines.

rSpringdale Habitat for Humanity is a non-profit, Christian housing ministry that works to eliminate poverty housing.

rThe Springdale chapter bases its selection of families on three “major” criteria: need for adequate shelter, ability to pay, and willingness to partner.

rThe Northwest Arkansas Homebuilders Association Habitat Golf Classic held its sixth annual golf tournament Sept. 22 in Bella Vista to help raise money for the Northwest Arkansas affiliates of Habitat for Humanity.

rEven before the golf tournament proceeds were tallied, the NWAHBA has raised $28,000 for local Habitat affiliates.
