Caldwell returns to D-G as columnist

On Jan. 6, Stephen Caldwell’s byline reappeared in the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette. But this time, the former sports reporter is writing on parenting and fatherhood as a freelancer for his former employer.

We’re glad to see Caldwell’s work wherever it appears, but we wish the D-G had taken a little more care in announcing his return to that newspaper. On the front page of the “Family” section that contained Caldwell’s first column in his new role, the D-G reported that Caldwell is editor of The Lifework Journal in Fayetteville. The publication Caldwell edits is actually a Christian business magazine titledThe Life@Work Journal.

Also, the announcement stated that Caldwell had worked on the D-G’s sports staff from 1984 to 1997. Actually, the D-G didn’t exist until 1991 when Democrat owner Walter Hussman purchased the Arkansas Gazette’s name and assets. From 1984 to 1991, Caldwell worked for the Democrat.
