Barry Cooksey, owner of Barry’s IGA at 1408 S.W. “A” St. in Bentonville, plans to close the store this month after operating it since 1985. Cooksey says a grocery store has occupied the site since 1959.
Construction to widen Arkansas Highway 102 has caused the IGA’s business to drop by 30 percent, says Cooksey. The Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department began construction on the road a year and a half ago. Barry’s IGA is located at the corner of Arkansas 102 and Walton Boulevard.
Cooksey says he has “elected to develop the property” but wouldn’t elaborate.
