Armstrong Closes Fayetteville BBQ Spot
The owners of Armstrong’s Pit Barbeque have closed their restaurant at The Sports Park of Arkansas in Fayetteville because of parking problems.
The restaurant opened in December. When the park’s batting cages opened with the warm weather in March, all the parking spaces were taken by batters, says Beuford Armstrong of Helena, who helped his son-in-law Eddie Phillips operate the eatery.
“People would drive through the parking lot and leave because they couldn’t park by the restaurant,” Armstrong says.
The restaurant, at 3489 Wedington Drive, closed in June. Armstrong says he’s looking for a new location in Fayetteville but doesn’t know when he might be able to reopen.
“We’re going to take our time this time and find a place with plenty of parking – and parking close by,” he says.
For 14 years, Armstrong ran Armstrong’s Pit Barbeque at Cypress Corner, a crossroads in rural Lee County near Marianna. Armstrong opened a restaurant in Helena in 1976 and sold the Cypress Corner eatery.
