Shue seeks second term as Sebastian County Prosecuting Attorney

Sebastian County Prosecuting Attorney Dan Shue announced Monday (Oct. 12) he will run for reelection to the post in the 2010 election.

Shue, who drew no opposition in the 2008 election, is a Fort Smith native and a graduate of the University of Arkansas School of Law.

“I had many goals when I became Prosecuting Attorney last January and I have moved the office toward the achievement of each of those goals in the last 9 months,” Shue said in a statement. “I hope to continue to do this work and look forward to again serving as Prosecuting Attorney for the Twelfth Judicial District.”

Prosecuting Attorney Daniel Shue announced Monday that he will be a candidate for the Republican nomination for Sebastian County Prosecuting Attorney.  Shue, 51, has served as Prosecuting Attorney since January 1, 2009, has served as Chief Deputy Prosecuting Attorney for 6 years, and has served as Deputy Prosecuting Attorney for 13 years.  Shue was also in the private practice of law for 6 years and has a total of 25 years experience as an attorney.

After graduating from Fort Smith public schools (Pike, Chaffin and Northside), Shue earned a Bachelor’s Degree at the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville (with High Honors) and then graduated from the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville’s School of Law (13th in a class of 144) in 1983.

Shue is also active in the community serving on the following Boards: Cavanaugh Free Will Baptist Church, Fort Smith Rotary, Court Appointed Special Advocates of Sebastian County, Inc., Hamilton House-Child & Family Safety Center, Inc. and Leadership Fort Smith Alumni. “You have to be an active part of the community to know what the community needs and what the members of the community are thinking and experiencing”, Shue stated.

“I was very humbled to have been unanimously endorsed by the Fraternal Order of Police and the Municipal Police Association in the election last year. This year I was honored to receive the Mayor’s Perfect Harmony Award, which was very special to me.  I believe your public prosecutor should be tough, but also fair and impartial”, Shue commented.

As a prosecutor, Shue has tried over 100 jury trials as lead counsel. He has assisted as co-counsel in 8 capital murder cases involving the death penalty. Shue tried the first criminal jury trial in Arkansas involving videotaped depositions of child victims and the first criminal jury trial in Arkansas involving computer forensics. Shue also tried the longest non-capital criminal case in Sebastian County’s history, State of Arkansas vs. Deanna Bobo, which took 7 courtroom days.

Shue has completed numerous schools related to prosecution, including those sponsored by the National College of District Attorneys, the American Prosecutor’s Research Institute and the Arkansas Prosecuting Attorney’s Association. Shue is a member of each of these organizations. In addition, Shue is a certified law enforcement instructor and has also been a speaker for the Arkansas Prosecuting Attorney’s Association.

Shue is a life-long resident of Sebastian County. Shue and his wife, Rita, have been married for 10 years. They live in Fort Smith with two of their children, Charlie and Elaine, and have a grown son, Christopher, who lives in Waldron, Arkansas.
