Democrat Nick Cartwright to challenge U.S. Rep. French Hill
Former Rose Bud City Councilman Nick Cartwright announced his campaign Thursday (July 22) for the Democratic nomination for the Second District Congressional seat. U.S. Rep. French Hill, R-Little Rock, holds the seat and is seeking a fifth term.
No other Democrats have announced for the race.
“I’m running to fight for regular, everyday Arkansans who have been left out of our politics for far too long. The people of the 2nd District deserve a representative from our communities willing to offer real, bold solutions to our biggest problems.”
Cartwright, 27, lives in Romance, Ark., and claims Rose Bud as his hometown. He was elected to the Rose Bud city council in 2017 and was a candidate for mayor in 2018.
His Arkansas work history includes serving as a rural organizer with Rural Community Alliance, outreach and policy with the Arkansas Public Policy Panel. He is currently self-employed as a courier.
Cartwright has a bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of Central Arkansas and a master’s degree in public administration from Arkansas State University.
Cartwright said he would focus on the “workers’ economy, revitalizing our rural communities, and investing in our future.”
