NYITCOM at ASU to host annual inter-professional event
Students preparing for careers in a variety of medical fields will come together to learn about the roles and responsibilities of other health care professionals as NYIT College of Osteopathic Medicine and Arkansas State University host their annual Introduction to Inter-professional Education (IPEC) event Friday (Jan. 17) at First National Bank Arena.
NYITCOM osteopathic medical students along with ASU physical therapy, occupational therapy, nutritional sciences, social work, communication disorders, nursing and athletic training students will work in small groups using a special patient case to discuss roles/responsibilities of their profession and to learn how teamwork can be effective in the health care setting.
The day will conclude with an expert panel to help students debrief the day and answer questions.
“This event is the first part in what we hope is a life-long learning process for the future medical community of our students in working with a healthcare team,” said Adrienne Loftis, D.O., NYITCOM assistant professor of clinical medicine and IPEC director. “Participants will begin to learn the importance of communication, team building, collaboration, and education to improve overall patient care and medical experience.”
The event will take place from 9 a.m. to noon. Media interested in attending should enter First National Bank Arena through the lower red entrance adjacent to the ASU ticket window.
