Megan Crozier, a 16-year Walmart veteran, has been tagged as the new chief merchant for Sam’s Club, according to an internal memo sent by Sam’s Club CEO John Furner on Monday (Sept. 9).

Furner said Crozier will assume the new role Sept. 16 and will report to him.

“This is a great time for Sam’s Club. We have spent the past two years getting back to the basics of the warehouse model, and it all starts with our merchants finding great items and getting the lowest costs,” Furner noted in the memo, which was obtained by Talk Business & Politics.

Crozier replaces Ashley Buchanan who was promoted to executive vice president and chief merchant for Walmart U.S. eCommerce in July. Buchanan held the role at Sam’s Club for 2.5 years.

Furner said Crozier is “strategic, dynamic and product-driven” which makes her an outstanding choice to lead the merchandising and supply chain teams at Sam’s Club.

As chief merchant, Crozier will build on her experience to lead a team of merchants, products managers, pharmacists and supply chain engineers, to name a few. Her direct reports include:

  • Lance de la Rosa, senior vice president, merchandising operations;
  • Lori Flees, senior vice president, general merchandise manager of health and wellness;
  • Clint Gill, senior vice president, general merchandise manager of dry grocery, beverage;
  • Sean Jackson, senior vice president, general merchandise manager of consumables;
  • Cindy O’Conner, senior vice president, general merchandise manager of general merchandise;
  • Kevin O’Conner, senior vice president, general merchandise manager of technology, entertainment;
  • Ed Romero, senior vice president, general merchandise manager of fresh;
  • Mohan Akella, vice president, eCommerce supply chain, replenishment;
  • Joe McSharry, vice president of supply chain;
  • Robert Parvis, vice president of global sourcing; and
  • Pamela Gaik, vice president of private brand

Crozier joined Walmart in 2003 as an engineer in a grocery distribution center in Temple, Texas. She moved to Bentonville to work as supply chain manager supporting merchandising and in 2005, she became as assistant buyer.

For the past two years she served as senior vice president, general merchandise manager of packaged goods where she helps to grow the business, according to the memo.
