Northwest Health to showcase orthopedic robot in public seminar
The public is invited to a free seminar at Northwest Medical Center-Bentonville to learn more about robot-assisted joint replacement surgery. The event is at noon Thursday, April 4, and should last about one hour.
Dr. Michael Maline, a board-certified orthopedic surgeon with specialized training in robot-assisted joint surgery, will demonstrate the robot and give attendees an in-depth look at how the robotic technology can benefit the patient when used by a trained surgeon.
The seminar will cover the advances in orthopedic surgery and how the use of robotic technology can help decrease both pain and recovery times after surgery. The new technology transforms the way joint replacement surgery is performed, enabling patients to have a more predictable surgical experience with increased accuracy.
Northwest Health said it is the first hospital in Northwest Arkansas to offer specific robot-assisted total knee, partial knee and hip replacement procedures.
With the new technology, each patient can be provided with a personalized surgical experience based on their specific diagnosis and anatomy. Using a virtual 3D model, the robotic system allows surgeons to personalize each patient’s surgical plan pre-operatively before entering the operating room. During surgery, the surgical plan can be validated and surgeons can make any necessary adjustments while guiding the robotic-arm to execute that plan.
