Editor’s note: This update provides new info about the GOP primary in the 3rd Congressional District race, and updates the statewide and district numbers.

U.S. Rep. John Boozman was the big winner on the Republican side of the U.S. Senate race, with enough votes to help him avoid a runoff election in a crowded primary field.

The Democratic primary for the U.S. Senate race will see U.S. Sen. Blanche Lincoln and Lt. Gov. Bill Halter face each other in a June 8 runoff election. D.C. Morrison, the third and most conservative candidate in the Democratic primary proved the spoiler by collection 13% of the primary vote. Most pundits didn’t expect Morrison to capture more than 10% of the Democratic primary vote.

Updated info: In the GOP primary for the 3rd Congressional District, Rogers Mayor Steve Womack captured the most votes, but was not able to avoid a runoff. Womack received 19,358 votes (with 100% of precincts reporting), or 31.2% of the vote. Womack will face State Sen. Cecile Bledsoe of Rogers in a June 8 runoff election. Bledsoe received 8,211 votes, or 13.3% of the count. Fort Smith attorney Gunner DeLay garnered 8,053 votes, or 13%. It is possible the DeLay camp could ask for a recount. The City Wire has asked the DeLay campaign about their intentions and will post a story or update when a response is received.
