Regional county sales tax revenue up in the 2026 first quarter

First-quarter 2026 sales tax revenue is up broadly among the four Arkansas counties in the Fort Smith metro, with only Franklin County showing a quarterly decline compared with the same period in 2025. Combined first-quarter revenue in the four counties is up 3% compared with the same period in 2025.

With a quarterly gain of 6.5%, Logan County posted the largest percentage growth during the quarter, according to information from the Arkansas Department of Finance and Administration. Crawford County was a close second with a 6% quarterly gain. Down 11.4%, Franklin County was the only county among the four to post a quarterly decline in sales tax revenue.

Van Buren and Ozark were the only top cities in the four-county area to post a first-quarter decline in sales tax revenue. First-quarter combined revenue in the four counties is $15.468 million, up 3% compared with $15.016 million in the same quarter of 2025.

Sales tax revenue among the four counties in the Fort Smith area was up in 2025 compared with 2024. Collections by the four counties in 2025 totaled $63.832 million, up 3.8% compared with $61.497 million in 2024. The tax revenue percentage gain in the four counties was also better than the statewide gain. Arkansas sales tax revenue in 2025 totaled $3.301 billion, down 0.36% compared with $3.314 billion in 2024.
