Ella Joan Chapman

Ella Joan Chapman, passed away May 25, 2026 in Fort Smith, AR. She was born February 4, 1934, in Sugar Grove, AR to Bruce Taylor and Ella (Moore) Taylor.

Joan was an avid bridge player for most of her life, delighting in the strategy and friendly competition the game brought her. In her younger years she enjoyed playing golf and remained a fan of the sport throughout her life. She had a lifelong love of jewelry and never felt fully dressed without her earrings, necklaces, bracelets, and rings — each piece a reflection of her vibrant spirit.

Joan spent the majority of her life as a widow after the passing of her young husband, Bob, in 1970. She worked for many years as the secretary to the U.S. Attorney in Muskogee.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and her three sisters.

Joan is survived by her son, Robert Chapman, and his wife Sharon; her granddaughter Carolyn Druck and husband Zach, and their children Caleb and Aly; her granddaughter Christina Chapman; and her granddaughter Natalie Rives and husband Toby, and their son Wesley.

Her family remembers her as loyal, witty, and loving — someone who found joy in her family and friends.

Cremation is under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home.
