David Eugene Wewers of Charleston, Arkansas, passed away Saturday, May 23, 2026, at Baptist Health Hospital in Fort Smith, Arkansas. He was born on October 31, 1960, in Wichita, Kansas, to the late Norbert Henry Wewers and Mary Agnes (Hatwig) Wewers. He was 65 years old. He was preceded in death by his parents, and an infant brother, Kevin Wewers.
David was a taxidermist and owner and operator of Wewer’s Taxidermy in Charleston. He was a 1980 graduate of Northside High School in Fort Smith. For many years, David was a religion teacher, member of Knights of Columbus, and was a faithful member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. He loved hunting, fishing, camping, playing golf, but most of all, spending time with his grandson, Wyatt Ray. David was loved by many and had many friends. He will be missed by all who knew him.
Rosary service will be held at 6:00 p.m., Wednesday, May 27th at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Charleston, with Deacon Mark Verkamp officiating. The family will visit with friends in the Sacred Heart Catholic Hall following the rosary service.
Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, May 28th at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, with Father Polycarp Ssebbowa, Father Jack Sidler, and Deacon Mark Verkamp officiating. Burial will follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Charleston, under the direction of Brotherton Brothers Funeral Home and Flower Shop in Charleston.
He is survived by his wife of 20 years, Katrina (Mantooth) Wewers; a daughter, Kasey LeAnn Steelman and husband Nic of Charleston; three sisters, Donna Adams and husband Micah of Fort Smith, Cheryl Dart and husband David of Fort Smith, and Denise Harris and husband Chris of Keota, Oklahoma; three brothers, Greg Wewers and wife Brenda of Muldrow, Oklahoma, Gerry Wewers and wife Alice of Scranton, and Jason Wewers and wife Michele of Fort Smith; one grandson, Wyatt Ray Gann of Charleston; and many nieces and nephews.
Serving as pallbearers will be David’s nephews.
David’s body will be lying in state and public viewing will begin at 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Charleston.
