Governor sets primary election date to fill House District 44 vacancy

Gov. Sarah Sanders set the primary election date for a special primary election to replace Rep. Stan Berry, R-Dover, who died in late March.

The House District 44 seat covers parts of Pope and Van Buren counties.

Sanders called for a special primary election for all eligible political parties to be held Tuesday, June 2. The period for filing for candidacy as a party candidate will start at noon Tuesday, April 14, and ends at noon Monday, April 20.

Drawing for ballot position for a special primary election will occur on or before Friday, April 24.

The results of the special primary election will be certified by the county boards of election commissioners on or before Friday, June 12. The date for the special general election has not been released yet, but is expected to be declared later this week.
