Humimic Biosystems

Humimic Biosystems is advancing organ modeling technology to improve drug development by providing human-relevant, real-time data in preclinical testing.

Founders Lexi Applequist and Dr. Kartik Balachandran are both inventors of all the startup’s technologies. Its platforms offer highly accurate models of the heart, nasal airway, brain and muscle, helping researchers reduce reliance on inefficient animal models and streamline drug discovery. 

Humimic Biosystems is post-revenue, has more than $95,000 in non-dilutive commercialization funding and its technology development is backed by a grant of more than $4.9 million. All the startup’s technologies are being used in government and academic labs, which are collecting validation data for publication. The goal is for these publications to encourage pharmaceutical companies to purchase the startup’s technology to phase out animal testing.
