County sales tax revenue up almost 4% in the Fort Smith region

Sales tax revenue for counties in the Fort Smith area was up in 2025 compared with 2024, and among cities with more than $1 million in annual sales tax revenue, all but two posted a revenue gain in 2025.

The sales tax info from the Arkansas Department of Finance and Administration (DFA) shows that Franklin County had the biggest percentage sales tax revenue gain in 2025 at 11.7%. Sebastian County had the lowest percentage gain at 0.82%.

Among cities with more than $1 million in sales tax revenue, the Franklin County city of Ozark had the largest percentage gain in 2025 at 5.76%. Booneville, in Logan County, was a close second with a 5.54% sales tax gain in 2025.

The only two cities to post a sales tax revenue decline in 2025 were Barling, down 19.6%, and Greenwood, down 0.13%.

Fort Smith, the largest city in the region, had a sales tax revenue gain of 0.18% in 2025 compared with 2024, according to the DFA data.

Collections by the four counties in 2025 totaled $63.832 million, up 3.8% compared with $61.497 million in 2024. The tax revenue percentage gain in the four counties was also better than the statewide gain. Arkansas sales tax revenue in 2025 totaled $3.301 billion, down 0.36% compared with $3.314 billion in 2024. The rate of inflation was up 2.7% to end 2025, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.
