Mark D. Holmes, a vibrant soul known for his adventurous spirit and generous heart, passed away suddenly on June 16, 2025, in a motor vehicle accident at the age of 64. Born on October 13, 1960, Mark, a long-time resident of Arkansas and Louisiana, lived a life full of laughter, dance, travel, and sailing. A graduate of Tulane University and a retired financial advisor, he had an extraordinary ability to connect with anyone, often treating strangers like old friends. Mark was deeply spiritual and truly one of a kind.
He was a loving father to Clayton Holmes (married to Victoria Holmes) and Leila Chavez (married to James Chavez), and a doting grandfather to Leila’s daughters, Grace Lipham and Rylie Chavez. Mark is also survived by his sister Sibley Pennington and his brother David Holmes. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dr. W.C. & Rose Mary Holmes, and his sister Amy Schluterman.
Mark’s selflessness continued even after his passing, as he was able to help others through organ donation. While he will be terribly missed, his family is profoundly grateful for their time together and trusts he is already embarking on a joyful new adventure.
A private memorial service to celebrate Mark’s life will be held at a later date.
Memorial contributions may be made to Team Rubicon HQ, 5230 Pacific Concourse Drive, Suite 200, Los Angeles, CA 90045, or go to www.teamrubiconusa.org. This organization unites military veterans and first responders for disaster relief. Mark deeply admired the service of his veteran friends, and his father was also a proud veteran. We also honor the brave first responders who tried to save his life after his accident and whose heroism on a 2001 med flight saved him, granting us many more precious years. Team Rubicon embodies the spirit of service and resilience he highly regarded.
