Luther Cecil Swindell, Jr., 90, of Van Buren, passed away Monday, June 23, 2025 at his home. He was born March 8, 1935 in Farris, OK to the late Luther and Tillie (Hill) Swindell, Sr. He was a pastor and worked with the Arkansas State Military Dept. He served his country in the U.S. Army and retired from the Air Force Air National Guard having participated in the Desert Storm campaign.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Ellen Leann Swindell; five sisters, Martha Weakley, Ruth Gibbons, Juanita Stiles, Ellen Summers, and June Barger; three brothers, Ellis Franklin, William Franklin, and Clovis Swindell.

He is survived by his wife, Bertha Swindell of the home; two daughters, Janet Alspach and husband Bill of Van Buren, and Jennifer Jones and husband Phillip of Alma; four grandchildren, Lindsey Alspach, Adam Winfrey, Andrew Winfrey (Jessica), and Kayla Alspach; and two great-grandchildren, Genevieve Winfrey and Rayne Winfrey.

Memorial service will be 12:30 p.m. Friday, June 27, 2025 at Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home Chapel followed by ashes being placed at the Fort Smith National Cemetery. Cremation is under the direction of Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home of Van Buren, AR.
