Jerry Robert Dunaway

Jerry Robert Dunaway, age 84, passed away peacefully on June 18, 2025. He was born on March 15, 1941, in Pricedale, Mississippi, to the late Jerry Alfred and Nellie Mae (Mercier) Dunaway.

On July 2, 1964, Jerry married the love of his life, Jo Ann Dunaway, and together they shared 60 wonderful years filled with love and devotion.

Jerry had a deep appreciation for the outdoors—he could often be found tending to his garden, fishing, or searching for hidden treasures at local flea markets. His strong faith was a guiding force throughout his life, and he found a cherished spiritual home in the community of First Freewill Baptist Church, where he faithfully served as a trustee. Above all, Jerry loved spending time with his family, who meant the world to him.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers and sisters: Jim, Eugene, Junior, Ray, Bill, Betty Sue, and Mary; and his great-grandson, Sam Vaughn.

Jerry is survived by his devoted wife, Jo Ann Dunaway; his daughter, Cheryl Gentry and her husband Jerry; grandson Max and wife Georgette, and their son, James Gentry; granddaughter Rachel and husband Bill, and their children Hadassah, Rebekah, and Sarai Sagely; and granddaughter Tiffany and husband Dan. He is also survived by his daughter, Rita Noblin and her husband Ceeth; grandson Eddie and wife Brittney, and their children William, Derek, and Bryce; granddaughter Maria and her children Serena, And Brent Garrett. Jerry’s son, Wayne Mantooth, also survives him, along with grandson Chris and wife Sara Mantooth, and their daughter, Lily Mantooth. In addition, he is survived by his brother Frank, sisters Virginia and Jannilla, and a host of beloved nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.

A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 25, 2025, at First Freewill Baptist Church, officiated by Pastor Ernie Imler and Reverend Randall Ray. Pallbearers will be Wayne, Chris, Max, Eddie, Philip Robins, and James Gentry.

Services are entrusted to the care of Lewis Funeral Chapel.
