Wanda Jean Chappell, 81, passed away peacefully on May 18, 2025, at Baptist Health Hospital in Fort Smith, Arkansas.
Born on February 25, 1944 in Fort Smith, Wanda was the cherished daughter of Don W. Goodson and Virginia Smith. On May 25, 1968, she married the love of her life, John Wesley Chappell, with whom she shared many joyful years. Together, they built a life rooted in love, family, and faith.
Wanda was known for her dedication to keeping a welcoming and orderly home. She worked as a self-employed housekeeper for many years, taking great pride in her work. Even in her spare time, she found comfort in cleaning, organizing, and rearranging her surroundings. Her home was always a reflection of her care and attention to detail.
A woman of quiet hobbies and simple joys, Wanda enjoyed needlepoint and relaxing with her favorite television shows, especially Little House on the Prairie. Her deep love for animals was evident in the way she cared for her beloved cats and dogs over the years. When her health allowed, she was a faithful member of First Church of God in Fort Smith, finding community and strength in her faith.
Above all, Wanda was a devoted mother, grandmother, and sister. Her love for her family was unwavering, and she will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
She is survived by her five children: Gary, Roger, Donna, John and wife Tabitha, and Denise; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; her brother, Dennis; and six sisters: Doris, Brenda, Sandra, Connie, Rita, and Sabrina (and husband Gary).
Wanda was preceded in death by her parents, Don and Virginia Goodson; her beloved husband, John Wesley Chappell; her son, Robert Wesley Chappell; her sister, Cheryl; and her brothers, Bill, Ricky, Nelius, Mike, and Donald.
A Committal Service will be held at Fort Smith National Cemetery at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, May 23, 2025. Cremation is under the compassionate care of Lewis Funeral Chapel.
