A Kansas hospitality developer broke ground on a 63-room hotel on Jan. 17 in Bentonville.

Wichita-based TGC Group is developing the site at 3138 S.E. East Pointe Ave. The property is adjacent to Home2 Suites by Hilton at 3100 S.E. East Point Ave., just off northbound Interstate 49.

TGC Group marketing director Jill Taylor said the company is developing the site for My Place Hotels, a franchise company based in South Dakota with locations in 28 states. The 26,000-square-foot project in Bentonville will be My Place Hotels’ first Arkansas property.

TGC Group paid Sitton Group LLC $737,500 for a 1.34-acre lot in May 2023. Central National Bank of Wichita, Kan., is financing construction with a $6.25 million loan that matures in 2047.

TGC is the builder and Richardson Design Group of Salt Lake City is the architect. The hotel is expected to open before the end of the year and will employ between 10 and 15 people.

According to Visit Bentonville, the city’s tourism bureau, there are 24 hotels and 2,214 rooms in the city. Three other hotels — two downtown and one on the new Walmart Inc. corporate campus — are in various construction phases.
