Local companies partner with ASU to provide scholarships

Four companies have partnered with Arkansas State University to offer their employees a special opportunity to advance their education.
ASU is offering up to 25 scholarships of $1,000 each to employees of Centennial Bank, Hytrol Conveyor Company, Inc., DENSO Manufacturing Arkansas, Inc., and Butterball LLC who want to earn credit hours toward a degree.
Under provisions of an agreement with A-State Global Engagement and Outreach, qualifying employees will receive half the scholarship when they begin taking ASU online classes or on-campus programs, and the other half when they enroll for their final class.
The employers’ representatives entered into a memorandum of understanding with the Division of Global Engagement and Outreach (GEO) to participate in the program.
Those signing to begin the partnerships were Davy Carter, regional president of Centennial Bank; David Peacock, president of Hytrol; George Harguess, president of DENSO Manufacturing Arkansas, Inc., and Jay Jandrain of Butterball LLC.
“Our partners see the value of well-educated employees and their potential to enhance their productivity,” said Chancellor Kelly Damphousse. “A-State Global Engagement and Outreach and university personnel stand ready to assist interested employees meet their goals for educational attainment and related job advancement.”
GEO representatives will periodically meet with employees who meet general admission requirements. The standard application fee is waived, and qualified employees can begin working toward an ASU degree. Each employer is willing to reimburse eligible employees in accordance with the company’s established guidelines.
The agreement extends through the spring semester of 2022, at which time it can be renewed.
