In the race to replace the late Rep. John Walker, D-Little Rock, Democrats Joy Springer and Ryan Davis will face off in a run-off election in three weeks.

The vacancy in House District 34 occurred due to the death of Walker, who unexpectedly passed away in late October 2019. He was serving his fifth term in the Arkansas House of Representatives.

Unofficially, Springer led the ticket with 43% of the vote to Davis’ 34% in the Democratic special primary election on Tuesday (Jan. 14). Democrat Lee Miller finished in third place with 16% of the vote and Democrat H. “Otis” Tyler pulled 7% support.

There were 694 votes cast in the special election. The run-off will be held on February 11.

The winner of the special election runoff will face Independent Roderick Talley on March 3, which is also the date of the regular Democratic primary.
