Small museum grants awarded to 33 organizations

Thirty-three organizations from around Arkansas received a Small Museum Grant from the Department of Arkansas Heritage (DAH) at a ceremony held at DAH’s headquarters in Little Rock on July 24.

The grants ranged in size from $1,910 to $2,425 for each institution and will fund such things as operations, exhibit development and archival storage.

“There is so much rich history in every corner of the state, and many small museums with wonderful volunteers, who are passionate about telling their local stories,” said Stacy Hurst, secretary of the Department of Parks, Heritage & Tourism. “We are delighted to provide support for those endeavors.”

Grants were announced for the following organizations:

To be eligible for the grants, applicants had to be non-profit museums or historical societies with annual operating budgets of up to $250,000 and at least one staff person, either paid or unpaid.

Staff time must be devoted primarily to the care of the museum and its collections, and the museum must be open to the public at least 90 days per year.
