Springdale developer Sam Mathias has given $700,000 to Arkansas Children’s Northwest, a pediatric hospital under construction west of Interstate 49 in Springdale.

“I’m honored to join a caring community of donors who are putting children first,” Mathias said. “As a business owner in this community, I’m proud to support the children of Arkansas through Arkansas Children’s Northwest.”

Mathias, owner of Mathias Properties and Today’s Bank, started his first venture into commercial real estate more than 30 years ago and has been a community advocate for Northwest Arkansas for decades, according to a news release. More than 20 years ago, his granddaughter received treatment at Arkansas Children’s in Little Rock after she was born.

Arkansas Children’s is grateful to Sam for his commitment to the children of Arkansas,” said Fred Scarborough, chief development officer of Arkansas Children’s and president of Arkansas Children’s Foundation. “His endorsement of the region’s first and only children’s hospital is a testament to his care and concern for his community.”

Arkansas Children’s Northwest is expected to open in early 2018 across from Arvest Ballpark, north of Don Tyson Parkway. The 233,613-square-foot hospital will provide pediatric inpatient, outpatient and emergency services to more than 200,000 children in Northwest Arkansas.
