David Sedaris to perform at Walton Arts Center Oct. 24

Comedian and author David Sedaris will perform at 7 p.m. Oct. 24 at the Walton Arts Center in Fayetteville, kicking off the 2017-18 LOL@WAC Series.

Sedaris’ works include the bestsellers “Barrel Fever” and “Holidays on Ice.” He has written several collections of personal essays including “Naked,” “Me Talk Pretty One Day,” “Dress Your Family in Corduroy and Denim” and “When You Are Engulfed in Flames.”

Sedaris also is the author of The New York Times-bestselling collection of fables titled “Squirrel Seeks Chipmunk: A Modest Bestiary (with illustrations by Ian Falconer).” He was also the editor of “Children Playing Before a Statue of Hercules: An Anthology of Outstanding Stories.”

There are more than 10 million copies of his books in print, and they have been translated into 25 languages, according to the WAC.

The audio version of his latest book, “Let’s Explore Diabetes with Owls,” was nominated for a Grammy Award for best spoken word album. His written pieces regularly appear in The New Yorker, have twice been included in “The Best American Essays” and his original radio pieces are regularly heard on the public radio show This American Life, according to the WAC.

A statement from the WAC noted: “With great skill, sardonic wit and incisive critiques, Sedaris will slice through cultural euphemisms and political correctness.”

Sedaris last performed at the WAC during the 2014-15 season.
