New restaurants continue to crop up in downtown Bentonville. Nearly a year ago the Business Journal reported Mario Valdovino, the corporate executive chef and director of culinary innovation, research and development for Tyson Foods Inc., was planning to open a business called MOD Restaurant & Social in the Midtown Center at the corner of Northwest Second and Northwest A streets.

The restaurant held a soft opening Oct. 6, and officially opened one week later. Executive Chef Will McCormick said a lunch menu will be added in early November.

The 70-seat restaurant is unique in that it does not feature a traditional, à la carte menu, but rather a multi-course tasting menu, which offers a set number and order of courses for a set price.

One block away, another locally owned restaurant is in the works. The building that previously housed Club Marketing Services at 101 W. Central Ave. now has a banner on the side of it announcing the coming opening of Fiamma 1873. The project is being led by Angelo Amabile, a co-owner of downtown Fayetteville restaurant Vetro 1925.

Dom Luzzo, most recently the executive sous chef under Matt McClure at The Hive, has signed on as Fiamma’s executive chef.
