WattGlass of Fayetteville has been named among the winners of the SunShot Initiative and will be given about $679,000 to further commercialization efforts for its antireflective glass-coating technology, according to a press release from the U.S. Department of Energy.

The company said it will use the award money to coordinate with solar panel manufacturers over the next 14 months to test the coating in at least 240 solar panels throughout the country.

“The SunShot award is highly respected and will enable us to scale our best-in-class, antireflective coating quickly by working with leaders in the solar industry,” CEO Corey Thompson said in a company news release.

WattGlass’ work is one of 21 projects funded under SunShot’s Technology to Market Program. Nineteen projects will be funded under its research and development program.

All in all, the energy department announced on Wednesday about $100 million in projects to advance solar technologies.

Last month, another local company, Picasolar Inc., was awarded $2 million as a receipient of the SunShot Tier 2 Incubator award.

Both companies are headquartered at the Arkansas Research and Technology Park.
