Gov. Hutchinson chairing NGA committee on Homeland Security
Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson this week was named chair of the National Governors Association’s Homeland Security and Public Safety Committee.
The committee is concerned with homeland security; the National Guard and homeland defense; criminal justice and public safety; and veterans, according to a press release from Hutchinson’s office.
Hutchinson served as the first undersecretary of the Department of Homeland Security under President George W. Bush and is a former federal prosecutor.
In a statement from his office, Hutchinson said, “I look forward to serving on the NGA leadership team as chair of the Homeland Security and Public Safety Committee. Seeing to the security of our homeland and the public safety of our citizens is of the utmost importance, especially in light of the recent tragedies and divisions challenging our world.”
