The World Fast-Draw Association (WFDA) Index Championship is coming to Mountain View’s Stone County Fairgrounds on Saturday (June 18) as part of a two-day “Wild West Weekend” event that looks to crown champions in both male and female categories.

For this year’s event, there will be a $100 entry fee for men and a $90 entry fee for women along with a $10 “WFDA shooter fee,” according to the group’s Facebook page.

Including the top prize earners, 15 winners will be selected in the male category and seven in female with cash rewards ranging from $100-$700 (men) and $90-$600 (women). All winning participants will receive trophies as well. Prizes will be awarded at a banquet on Saturday night. Signups start at 8 a.m. and the event at 9 p.m.

The chairman-sanctioned event, hosted by the Missouri Raiders Fast Draw Club and sponsored by the Mountain View Chamber of Commerce, combines a well-tuned single-action revolver, wax bullets, and quick draw skills.

The 2015 champions were Tom Lechner and Margie Tinsley. The full hall of champions from 1955 to the present is available at the WFDA website.

The WFDA was formed in 1976 when the Mid-Western and Western Fast Draw Associations merged, and is one of the largest sanctioning bodies in the sport of Fast Draw. It is a nonprofit group dedicated to governing, preserving and promoting the sport.
