Dr. Allyson Weedn Moulton, a fifth generation surgeon, born and raised in Fort Smith, has returned to the area to join Sparks Health System as a surgeon. Matt Burrous has joined Sparks Clinic Lung Center as an advanced practice registered nurse.

She will work Drs. C. Michael Gooden and Laurence Lo at Surgical Associates of Fort Smith located at 923 Lexington Ave. Moulton practices general surgery, trauma surgery and has a fellowship in cosmetic surgery. During her residency, she trained at the University of South Carolina School of Medicine and Virginia Tech Carilion, both Level 1 Trauma Centers.

Moulton says some of her favorite cases include abdominoplasty and breast surgeries, commonly referred to as “Mommy Makeovers.”

“With these cases you can see the results and how it boosts a woman’s confidence,” she said. “When the patients come in post-op, they look better, they feel better, and it’s makes for a positive atmosphere.”

Moulton is available for self-referrals for issues such as troublesome skin lesions, hernias, abdominal pain as well as common cosmetic procedures.

During his training, Burrous treated patients in critical care and emergency care areas. He earned his degree from the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences in Little Rock in December of 2015. Burrous says he was interested in the medical field at a young age.

“Growing up, my best friend’s mother was an ICU nurse and she inspired me to pursue nursing,” Burrous said. “I like the faster pace of critical care and being in an area where I can really help people.”

Burrous will assist board-certified pulmonologist and sleep specialist Dr. Arturo Meade in the Lung Center and Sleep Disorders Center at Sparks.

Burrous is from Tontitown, Ark., and is a former member of the U.S. Army Reserves and served during Operation Enduring Freedom in 2003. He and his wife, who is also a nurse practitioner, have three children.
