Tyson Foods Inc. has promoted Jason Nichol to senior vice president, Walmart. The Springdale-based company announced the promotion in a press release on Thursday.

As senior vice president, Nichol will help develop the appropriate capacity footprint to drive growth for Tyson’s business with Wal-Mart Stores Inc., according to the press release. He will also continue to lead strategic initiatives with Walmart’s executive leaders on subjects that include animal well-being and sustainability.

Nichol joined The Hillshire Brands Co. in 2014 as vice president, Walmart-retail packaged goods, and later transitioned into the role of Tyson Foods’ vice president, Walmart-fresh in 2015.

“We’re very pleased to announce the promotion of Jason to yet another leadership position,” Scott Rouse, chief customer officer of retail sales/chain restaurants, said in the release. “He has a strong track record of driving positive business results at Walmart for companies such as Nabisco, Cott Beverages and The Scotts Miracle-Gro Co., and I know he will continue that legacy of excellence for Tyson Foods.”

Nichol attended Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches, Texas, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in agricultural business operations in 1993, according to the release.
