Kayla Pipkins, a physician assistant, has joined Sparks Clinic Cancer Center.

She earned her master’s degree in physician assistant studies and a bachelor’s degree in medical technology from the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences in Little Rock. She graduated with honors in May 2015. Before pursuing her degree full-time, Pipkins worked in the lab at Arkansas Children’s Hospital as a medical technologist.

“I’ve always had an interest in hematology and cancer because working with those patients is both challenging and delicate,” she said.

As a physician assistant, Pipkins is considered a mid-level provider. Physician assistants are governed by the state medical board and go through coursework similar to that of a medical school student. Pipkins, from Hot Springs, will see patients in the clinic and in the hospital with Dr. Varant Arzoumanian.

During her education, she had a clinical rotation at the Cancer Center.
